No One Has Ever Become Poor By Giving!
I, Babu Lal Singh, completed my B.A. from Allahabad University in the year 2004, after which I moved to Delhi for higher studies. While staying in Delhi, I completed my M.A. and B.Ed. and began preparing for competitive examinations (Civil Services).
In August 2012, I was standing at Shivaji Stadium (Connaught Place), waiting for a bus. Nearby, there was a dustbin, where I noticed an elderly beggar picking up food from it and eating. Seeing this scene caused immense pain in my heart, and I felt a strong urge to do something for such helpless and destitute people.
After some time, I returned home, but that scene continued to replay in my mind. After deep reflection, I realized that even if I were to become an I.A.S. officer, my goal would still be to serve society—so why not begin serving society right away? At that moment, I decided to work for helpless children, the elderly, and beggars.
I began by supporting the education of a child in R.K. Puram. Today, that girl is pursuing her B.A. from Delhi University. As this work progressed, I discussed my efforts with friends and seniors. During these discussions, some seniors suggested that to continue such work in the long term, a structured organization would be required, which could be established through an NGO.
After careful thought and deliberation, in October 2014, I registered an NGO at the national level named “Punarjagran Samiti”, which currently has 9 members.
Today, we are actively working in six states of India — Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Uttarakhand.
Through all these centers, a total of 6,410 trainees and students have benefited so far.
